Lucknow: The 12th International Yoga Day, themed “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” marked the successful culmination of a 21-day Yoga Mahotsav (June 1–21, 2026) organized by the Yoga and Naturopathy Department of Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences. The concluding session was held at the premises of Ramakrishna Math, Nirala Nagar from 5:45 AM to 7:00 AM, following the Common Yoga Protocol issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the public along with nursing students of Vivekananda Polyclinic School and College of Nursing. A total of 301 participants gathered at Ramakrishna Math, while 140 students and faculty members participated from the nursing institutions, bringing the total participation to 441 individuals.
Spiritual Message on Yoga and Healthy Ageing
Addressing the gathering, the President of Ramakrishna Math, Nirala Nagar, Swami Muktinathananda, emphasized that yoga is not merely physical exercise but a comprehensive science of integrated development of body, mind, and soul. Speaking on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he said that regular practice of yoga, pranayama, and meditation helps individuals remain physically fit, mentally balanced, and spiritually aware.

He further highlighted that yoga supports vitality, confidence, and a positive outlook in old age, enabling individuals to lead a healthy, active, and dignified life. Stressing preventive healthcare, he noted that early adoption of yoga can help avoid diseases, while continued practice aids recovery alongside medical treatment. He extended his wishes to all for a healthy life through yoga and emphasized its role as a pathway to harmony and spiritual growth.
Emphasis on Preventive Healthcare and Lifestyle
Principal of Vivekananda Polyclinic School and College of Nursing, Dr. N. Venkatalakshmi, stated that balanced nutrition, regular health check-ups, positive lifestyle choices, and yoga are essential for healthy ageing. She noted that modern medical science also recognizes yoga’s role in preventing and managing age-related disorders. She urged society to adopt yoga as a daily practice for ensuring emotional, mental, and physical well-being, leading to a dignified and self-reliant old age.

Yoga as a Holistic Healing System
Head of the Yoga and Naturopathy Department, Dinesh Kumar Maurya, described yoga as a timeless discipline that harmonizes body and mind, awakening higher consciousness within individuals. He explained that yoga and naturopathy, as ancient healing systems, enhance immunity and support overall health. Regular practice of asanas, pranayama, shatkarma, and meditation ensures balanced energy flow in the body, strengthens resistance against infections, and promotes holistic well-being.

Concluding Ceremony
At the conclusion of the event, participants were provided with natural nutritious refreshments, Common Yoga Protocol charts, Ramakrishna Math calendars, and pens. Regular participants were also awarded certificates of appreciation for their active involvement in the Yoga Mahotsav.
The grand celebration reflected a strong community commitment towards promoting yoga as a way of life for healthy ageing and holistic wellness.
